The sign, written in Dutch (of course), translates to "It is vacation" and is part of a tradition the Sampson family invented. Many years ago while vacationing in Disneyland — David's favorite travel destination — David found himself getting very frustrated with the crowds and the hustle of the park. At one point he told himself "It is vacation!", and reminded himself of where he was, how fortunate he was to be there, and how he needed to relax and enjoy the moment. After David relayed his epiphany to the rest of the Sampson family, he encouraged members of the family (when it became apparent that they or someone else in the family was getting frustrated) to kindly remind themselves and each other that "It is vacation". This gave rise to the tradition that became known as "giving each other a vacation". When setting out on vacations the family would even speculate as to who would be the first to need to be given "a vacation" by having someone kindly remind them "It's vacation" so they chill out and enjoy themselves. We commemorated this tradition by hanging this sign in our cabin as a constant reminder to not get worked up over small stuff (and it's all stuff) and to instead take a step back and remind yourself that you are lucky enough to be in this wonderful environment. Enjoy it!
