This rocking chair, made from horseshoes that were welded together, sat for many years in the "Rockin' R Ranch" in Mesa Arizona. The "Rockin R' Ranch" was a working cattle and horse ranch for over a century. As the city of Mesa grew, the owners of the Ranch (Big Jim and Sweet Mary Robson) added a restaurant serving all you can eat chuck wagon dinners, a saloon, and a full theater where they performed nightly Wild West stage shows for decades. They also added a replica Western town, which included panning for gold, horse-drawn wagon rides, gunfight performances, and other cowboy style attractions. This horseshoe rocking chair sat on the wooden planks of the sidewalk/decks of the storefronts of the Western town. There were two rocking chairs at the Ranch, this one and a second chair that was well over six feet tall (grown adults would have to climb up to get in it). As Mesa grew more and more, the time came to close the Ranch. When that happened, the owners held an auction and sold a lot of the equipment and western style items from the Ranch. While David had his eyes on the much larger rocking chair, Tiffany told him that it would be much too impractical and convinced him to settle for the smaller chair. The history and nostalgia of this chair make it a valued addition to our cabin.
